Kuboraum
Kuboraum designs its frames as masks: oversized, geometrically fearless, avant-garde eyewear built to redraw the face around it — closer to an art object than an accessory.
Dreamed in Berlin and handmade in Italy, each mask is hand-cut from acetate and finished so the metals feel already lived-in. Try one on and watch the room recalibrate.
Where can I buy Kuboraum in South Africa?
Kuboraum is stocked at OPTIK, Shop SL24, Melrose Arch, Johannesburg — next door to Woolworths. Optik is a proudly authorised Kuboraum stockist, with every frame sourced directly from the house or its authorised distributor. Come in to try them on, or enquire on WhatsApp and we'll help you find the right pair.
Why are Kuboraum frames called masks?
Kuboraum means cubic room, and each frame is designed as a mask — built to reveal the wearer's character rather than hide the face.
Where are Kuboraum glasses made?
In Italy — each frame is hand-cut and hand-polished from Italian acetate in small workshops, to a design conceived in Berlin. The work is deliberately manual, so no two are quite identical.
Can Kuboraum frames take prescription lenses?
Yes — most of the optical masks can be fitted with your prescription. Optik partners with trusted specialist optical laboratories for lens manufacturing, while our team manages the measurements, lens selection, frame assessment and final quality check.
Does Kuboraum make sunglasses as well as optical glasses?
Yes — most Kuboraum masks exist as both sunglasses and optical frames, and several optical shapes take tinted lenses. The Kuboraum pieces in The Collection at Optik, Melrose Arch span both; the honest answer to which suits you is found in the chair, with the frame on your face.
How much do Kuboraum glasses cost in South Africa?
Prices at Optik are in rand and shown against each frame on the Kuboraum page, the way a wall label sits beside a work. Kuboraum sits at the considered end of eyewear — hand-cut, hand-finished, made in small Italian workshops. Enquire on WhatsApp (062 787 5749) for the current pieces in store at Melrose Arch.
Is Optik an authorised Kuboraum stockist in Johannesburg?
Yes — Optik at Melrose Arch is an authorised Kuboraum stockist, and every frame comes directly from the house or its authorised distributor. Fittings and adjustments happen in person at Shop SL24, next door to Woolworths.
What does Maske mean in Kuboraum model names?
Maske is German for mask. Kuboraum names each design a Maske followed by a letter and number — Maske B2, Maske P27, Maske J2 — so the model name tells you which mask you are looking at, not a season or a line.
Can I try Kuboraum masks on in person in South Africa?
Please do — these are frames that only make sense on a face, and the weight and scale of the acetate is the part no photograph carries. The Kuboraum pieces in The Collection are in store at Optik, Melrose Arch: Mon–Fri 09:00–17:00, Sat 09:30–16:00. Walk in, or book an eye test and do both at once.
KUBORAUM IS STOCKED AT OPTIK, MELROSE ARCH, JOHANNESBURG.
FITTINGS AND ADJUSTMENTS HAPPEN IN PERSON — THAT PART WE NEVER PUT ONLINE.
