An hour, booked for you
Every examination at Optik is booked for a full hour. That is the whole proposition, and it is worth saying plainly: an hour is long enough to find out what is actually going on, to explain it in language that means something, and to choose frames afterwards without anybody standing over you.
It is also why people travel here. Optik is an independent practice at Melrose Arch, and most patients come from further afield than that.
What has changed
How you use your eyes, what you have noticed, what you do all day. Most people arrive because something specific has started happening — small print at arm's length, headaches by late afternoon, glare on the drive home. That is the useful starting point, and it takes a conversation rather than a form.
Vision and prescription
A comprehensive examination of how each eye focuses, how the two work together, and what correction would actually help. Being unhurried matters here: a rushed refraction gives a number, an unhurried one gives a prescription you can live in all day.
A look at the eye itself
An eye examination is also a health examination. Where it is indicated we take fundus photographs — a photograph of the retina at the back of the eye — which gives a record that can be compared against next time. Change over years is the thing worth seeing, and you cannot see it without the earlier picture.
Choosing frames, unhurried
Frame selection happens after the examination, not squeezed around it, and with the prescription already known — which narrows the field honestly, because not every frame suits every lens. Optik partners with trusted specialist optical laboratories for lens manufacturing, while our team manages the measurements, lens selection, frame assessment and final quality check.
